Verena Bonath has the artistic attempt to preserve the visual culture and developments of the 21st century.
'Seeing' is one of the most important skills in the digital time. Facing the fact that the digital world attaches more and more importance to define identity and a certain purpose of life, the artist's intention is - by depicting apparently trivial - to ask for the current sense of our visual culture.
Bonath is influenced by a daily accumulation of digitally edited images. Calling it the new 'restaged view' which emerges in all her artworks. Bright, colorful or high-contraste. This is the appearance of today's visual culture, where pictures are largely manipulated and edited without admitting it. Within her art, Bonath transforms this visual manipulations into figurative paintings.
Therefore she has developed several artistic techniques: the Collage Sublime and the Repainting. Considering her works, we doesn't know how often the depicted has been edited or transformed. Again, looking is just judging without understanding.
